The Many Moods of Citra (9x500ml & 3x330ml)
This box consists of the following beers, all of which have been hopped with Citra:
3 x Table Beer 3% (500ml)
Malt: Pale Marris Otter, Oats
Hops: Citra
Yeast: Cal Ale
Pale golden in the glass. The aroma is fresh and green, vibrant and alive, with grassy hops and a garden of flowers lifted by citrus zest. The first sip is broad and rounded, turning quickly juicy with more citrus, then snapping into a crisp, mineral tang. Bitterness lands cleanly. The finish is short. Super refreshing.
3 x Pale Ale 5.3% (500ml)
Malt: Pale Marris Otter
Hops: Citra
Yeast: Cal Ale
Aromas of melon, grapefruit, bright citrus, and passion fruit, with generous tropical notes. Think, mango and papaya. The palate is rounder and fruit-forward: grapefruit and green grape leading into a gentle tropical warmth. A firm, cleansing bitterness tidies the finish.
3 x India Pale Ale 6.9% (330ml)
Malt: Pale Marris Otter
Hops: Citra
Yeast: Cal Ale
Burnished gold in the glass. The aroma blooms with sweet citrus; orange at the fore, wrapped in ripe guava, with wisps of marmalade. The palate is poised and gently juicy: grapefruit, more guava, and a surge of lime, almost lime cordial. Full-bodied, smooth, and round, it carries through with sweet lime before finishing on a pithy, cleansing bitterness.
3 x Export India Porter 5.8% (500ml)
Malt: Marris Otter, Chocolate, Crystal, Brown & Black
Hops: Citra
Yeast: Cal Ale
Our Export India Porter started out as a recipe based on one from the Barclay Perkins brewery from 1855 crossed with a Whitbread recipe from 1856 (called India Export Porter). We’ve tempered the roast character of the original recipe with some chocolate and crystal malts, but the main difference is that this is hopped in the way we would hop our pale ales and IPAs with late kettle additions and dry hopping.
Citra is the pivot. Its punch of lime, grapefruit, and tropical zest cuts through the dark malts, lifting the beer from brooding to bright. The pour is deep brown, suggesting coffee and cocoa, yet the hops thread in lightness and fruit: think Turkish delight dusted in cocoa, chocolate, rosewater, and a citrusy, guava-tinged shimmer from Citra’s oils.
On the palate, cacao and espresso meet juicy lime and grapefruit, with Citra’s high-impact aromatics keeping the mid-palate lively. The finish lands dry, roasty, and firmly bitter, the pithy snap of Citra tightening everything into a crisp close.
